Alpha Epsilon Fall 2018

Sigma Kappa Alpha Epsilon has had a jam packed few weeks. From celebrating a second bid day for our new members who went through the secondary recruitment process, to raising funds for our favorite foundation - the Sigma Kappa Foundation, our collegiate women have been kept busy! We welcomed eight new members to bring our Fall 2018 new member class to the grand total of 51 amazing women. We recently hosted our fall philanthropy Sigma Kappa Ultra Violet Karnival, yes you read that right Carnival with a “K”. We also recently had our Big-Little Reveal, which was a huge success. We are excited to invite you and your families to Sigma Kappa Alpha Epsilon’s first ever alumnae trick-or-treating event, read on for more details for these events!

This September, Sigma Kappa Alpha Epsilon celebrated their second annual Sigma Kappa Karnival. This year the Karnival was hosted at the chapter facility as we welcomed hundreds of guests. Guests each got five tickets and could play carnival games, or for a little extra they could dunk a Sigma Kappa in the dunk tank. We served traditional carnival food with the crowd favorite being cheese curds. The organizers of this event were Taylor Dary and Sammi Benson. All of the collegiate women wanted to thank the alumnae that came and supported the event. Without your support we wouldn’t have been able to raise over $4,500 for the Sigma Kappa Foundation!

Our colligate women recently had their Big-Little Reveal. Each year the Vice President of New Member Education chooses an exciting and creative way to reveal to the new member class who their big, an older member usually in the sophomore or junior pledge class, is. This year we used polaroid photographs for the reveal. We had the new member stand facing away from the door while their big posed behind them for a photograph, the new member was then able to see who their big was once the photo developed. The event was a huge success, filled with laughter ad smiles.

These past few weeks have been a very emotional time for all students here at Iowa State. On Monday September 17, 2018 Iowa State lost an amazing young women and student athlete. Celia Barquín Arozamena was a senior in Civil Engineering and Iowa State University Female Athlete of the Year who we lost to a senseless crime. Our collegiate women have rallied around one another and the whole university as we mourn the loss of such a promising student. Our Sigma Kappa women remember during these times we are not only Sigma Kappas we are Cyclones, forever true.
